INTRODUCTION
2020, has been designated as the Diocesan Year of Pilgrimage. A year that encourages us all to invite people to journey with us and learn more about Jesus and our own faith journeys.
Bishop Paul said: “The focus is on locally exploring being pilgrims together. The core of this has always been to encourage everyone locally to explore being pilgrims together during 2020. This includes inviting others to journey with us. It has also been very encouraging to hear of Deanery plans to undertake Pilgrimages together to Durham Cathedral, or elsewhere (Lindisfarne, Walsingham, the next-door parish ….).
“My own first Pilgrimage Walk is the Way of Life: from Gainford to Durham. There will be a Pilgrimage routes launch celebration in Gainford on Palm Sunday afternoon. All will be welcome. Bishop Sarah and I are then walking the route Monday to Wednesday accompanied by Lord Michael Bates. On Maundy Thursday all are invited to gather with us at St Oswald’s Church to walk together up to the Cathedral for the Chrism Eucharist at 11.00 am. More details in due course. The Way of Love, Learning and Light will be walked from Ascension to Pentecost. The writer and broadcaster Sheridan Voysey, whose wonderful book The Making of Us is about his pilgrimage from Lindisfarne to Durham in 2013, will be joining us on The Way of Learning and each evening will have an event with him.
“There is to be a Taizé Pilgrimage from 4-13 July with a focus on the 18-30s. Chris Howson is organising this. He can be contacted via e-mail [email protected]
“I know there are parish and deanery plans and events happening throughout the year. Please do share the stories over the coming months as we Journey together through this year of pilgrimage.”
