Laying on of hands – by priests of the Diocese

People from diverse walks of life were ordained as Priests and Deacons in the Diocese of Durham at ceremonies staged in Durham Cathedral on Saturday 29th June (Priests) and Sunday 30th June (Deacons). Each one has been called to ordained ministry after amassing a wealth of experiences in a wide range of places and jobs and they include a former luxury car engineer, a man who led a campaign to free his town of abandoned shopping trolleys and those who overcome serious illness on their way to Ordination. The ordination weekend saw large congregations at the Cathedral on both days. Diocesan Director of Ordinands Richard Collins said: “This has been a fantastic two days following on from three days of reflective retreat for the ordinands. This is just the start of their ordained ministry, for the Deacons this is the first year – where they serve the church family ahead of being ordained this time next year as priest. For the newly ordained priests, this signifies the start of their ordained ministry as leaders of ministry. It is also hugely reassuring that so many people come to the ordination ceremonies each year and this demonstrates that the support that all the ordinands have from their churches and communities for the work they do. Now that this years ordinations are over it’s time to start the planning and work leading up to next year.”
