Children were able to learn more about the Lindisfarne Gospels during two days of workshops held at Stockton Baptist Tabernacle.
LG4U! (Lindisfarne Gospels for You!) was organised by the Anglican Durham Diocese for youngsters who may not be able to see the work itself during its visit to the region.
Children were invited to find out about the Gospels and where they fit into the Bible, learn about St. Cuthbert and his life, gain a sense of knowledge of our heritage as a region and experience the insights that the Gospels have to offer.
A digital copy of the Gospels was shown on a big screen to make the pages ‘come alive’ for the children.
The event, which included music and art workshops as well as the chance to ‘meet’ Cuthbert, was free and was planned by Sharon Pritchard, Children’s Ministry Adviser, and Viv Neville, Stockton Deanery Children’s Work Co-ordinator and Trainer.
Sharon said: “This is a great opportunity to bring the Gospels alive for as many people in the region as possible, even if they can’t get to visit the exhibition of the Lindisfarne Gospels in Durham City. These workshops have been put on to all allow children from local schools to explore the meaning and workmanship that went into producing the originals. Exploring through doing is a really vital part of learning and these workshops have given children a great deal of learning and fun.”
Another workshop will take place at Stockton Parish Church in September.
